Starting from photographs, I make a sketch, simplifying and exaggerating facial features and surroundings.

I work quickly with a palette knife on several pictures at once. I build up layers of paint, sometimes scraping off and starting again. I return to the original sketch and remove or add people. If the painting still does not work, I may start a new one on top. From my starting point I never have an idea of the finished picture, only that it will be thick with paint.

My paintings are mainly auto-biographical, most recently of holidays past - I'm missing the sea.

The four faces pictured here are of my daughter  - send me a picture and I can do one on a commission basis .

Prices for commissions are roughly the same eg 15cm x 15cm x 3.5cm would be £85 ( spirit of an image rather than a genuine likeness ) .
